Founded in 2000 by dancer-choreographer Akram Khan and dancer and arts manager Farooq Chaudhry, the Akram Khan Company is renowned for its innovation and major international presence, touring extensively around the globe.
Inspired by Akram Khan's early training in, kathak, the classical Indian dance form, and the hybrid choreographic language that organically emerges when it encounters contemporary dance, the company is constantly looking for opportunities to learn, to collaborate with the best performers across different artistic disciplines, and to tell stories through dance that explore the unknown and take risks, without compromise.
The company's work ranges from kathak to modern solos, and ensemble works. Akram Khan has won numerous international dance awards, including an Olivier for his solo DESH in 2012. The creation of a choreographic work for the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games was a highlight for the company. The Akram Khan Company enjoys artistic collaboration with London's Sadler's Wells Theatre, Curve in Leicester and leading venues and festivals around the world.
