A school matinee with Sankofa Danzafro

On Thursday February 22, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm, Théâtre Maisonneuve was buzzing with the presence of 950 young people who came to attend a performance of Detrás del Sur: Danzas para Manuel by Sankofa Danzafro.

We were particularly moved by the enthusiastic and inspiring energy that spread throughout the performance. It is part of Danse Danse's mission to do everything possible to create a powerful and meaningful cultural experience for all audiences, including young people. The moment of sharing and transmission we witnessed was strong and gratifying, thanks to the generosity of the company, who finished the performance by teaching us movements from Afro-Colombian dances and salsa choke.

Teachers' testimonies

"This show took us completely elsewhere. I am extremely grateful for the greatness and beauty of this show!"

"It was an incredible experience filled with sharing. My students loved the show. Some were able to connect with their roots and culture. For others, it was a wonderful cultural discovery. As for me, I was immersed in this universe from beginning to end. This piece carries a powerful message, and what better way than through dance to bring people together and unite them?"

"Thanks to this show, I feel I have a better understanding of the reality of the students I have been working with for over 15 years now. Truly, we all came away with the feeling of having lived through a strong, unifying, nourishing cultural experience."
