There’s a new star shining in Italian dance firmament! Sofia Nappi offers us a soulful and healing quintet, an enticement to drop the masks and embrace the present moment.
A current sensation on the European scene, Sofia Nappi has made a dazzling debut, winning commissions and awards at a dizzying pace. The works of this young Italian choreographer and dancer, who trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York, reflect two fundamental influences: the gaga technique of choreographer Ohad Naharin, and the work of Hofesh Shechter. Premiered at the Venice Biennale during the pandemic, IMA is Japanese for “the present moment” and Hebrew for “mother,” associated with rebirth and renewal. Contrasting theatre and dance, past and present, old age and youth, nostalgia and exuberance, IMA invites us to join the great dance of life. Comforting.

She is the artistic director of her project KOMOCO, co-founded in collaboration with her first muses Adriano Popolo Rubbio and Paolo Piancastelli. Her first creations with KOMOCO won the Partner Introdans Award at the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition 2021, as well as the Critics' Award and the Production Award from the Tanja Liedtke Foundation.

KOMOCO is an Italian based Dance Company initiated by the collaboration between choreographer and performer Sofia Nappi, and her sister, violinist and composer Alice Nappi, and their shared passion for art. KOMOCO has quickly grown into a major player in the international contemporary dance scene.
